Back when I drove a VW TDI, they made a manual and I almost got one, but after driving in downtown city traffic I was glad I went with the auto. I guess I'm getting old myself!

That's awesome. Tesla started a trend with the big integrated systems in dashes. Even the new 2019 Ram has a huge display now as well (rumored by the leaks).

It's all about sales. Compare manual trans sales to autos and you'll see why. Automakers want to maximize profit, and having to build cars with different configs (along with engineering, assembly line changes, etc, etc..) just doesn't add up to the money spent I'm sure to create the manual trans...
Hey Rick.. you won't see much of any sound changes unless you remove the DPF.. that probably doesn't fall into your criteria of "passing smog check". :)
Welcome! A 4 month engine replacement wouldn't make me happy, but glad you're back in business. Did the dealer ever tell you what went wrong in the engine?
