In addition to autoX's comments:
It's a boost pressure blow off valve. Much like what is seen in movies such as Fast and Furious where the engine is revved and then the boost pressure is released to the outside for visual effect. On our ecodiesels it is the same function, but far less...
I have a '15, so don't know if the set up is similar. I had this problem after a major repair:
The connection of the intake air hose to the throttle body has three points that are supposed to engage. If only 1 or two are "clicked in", it's not sealing and you are losing boost pressure.
I have a Banks Derringer, ended up buying a tune anyway. Now it's just an expensive boost/air density gauge. I recommend you save your time and money and go straight for a good tune, there's a few to choose from.
Some time back, I was able to purchase extended back covers for my headlight assemblies. I'm sorry, I don't recall the brand, but some i-net searching should turn some up. My biggest hurdle with going LED in my projectors was that my truck monitors current draw for burned out bulbs. I have...
Peter,
DEF consumption will vary, but somewhere in the 700-900 miles per gallon seems to be normal. The DEF tank on the trucks is 8 gallons (US).
I have seen much discussion on oil changes and oils to use. The general consensus is not to go the 10k mi between changes. I do mine at about 8k...
I see. If that happened to me, I'd probably feel the same way. Interesting to note (not trying to add insult to injury), on my SFT tunes/updates, the SCR has always been on (DEF usage).
What happened that you refer to SFT as dishonest? My experience with them has been, at times, their customer service can leave something to be desired, but they have always gotten my tune updated, and their tunes have run well for me.
Well, I'm not above being wrong on something, but no misleading is intended. I haven't looked at SFT's site in a while so apologies for the inaccuracy.
Edit: Thinking back, I do recall SFT making the "for off road use only" statements more visible and adding a click box about it.
The crackdown I'm referring to is the 2020 EPA National Enforcement & Compliance Initiative that goes after aftermarket diesel delete devices and emissions defeating tunes. A search will give a lot more info on this. Around that time, I saw Banks stop selling all their ecodiesel performance...
I'd like to address a previous comment about dealer ECU flashes and SFT tunes... SFT uses VIN as well as software version of the stock tune to ensure only the licensed purchaser can load their tune. This is because with an OBDLink MX or MX+ unit and the Alpha OBD app, one can change the VIN in...
Did some "surfing" and most causes are some sort of leak/seepage at fuel injectors or fuel regulator. Occasionally it's an exhaust leak - didn't say where.
The "permanent" code will go away once the problem is fixed and you drive the truck for a day or two. Erasing the code allows you to t-shoot one change at a time to see if the CEL comes back.
Yes - stock exhaust, and yes just an experiment.
I loaded the stage 2 tune again right before a 60 mile highway trip. Conditions were temp in the low 90s and elevation 5000 - 5500ft. Ran good, not much improvement on the MPG average. Likely due to a/c running constantly. I could feel some...
Most of the fuel system you could flush, but the high pressure pump is likely damaged and sent metal into the injectors. Those two should probably be replaced. The rest can probably be saved. That is, if you can find a mechanic willing to spend the time to flush stuff instead of wastefully...
Stage 2 update: EGTs tend to run cooler (100°ish) at idle and light throttle, the difference reduces under heavier throttle. Fuel consumption is about 1 mpg better - Approx 75% freeway and of that, roughly equal parts traffic and cruising speed. Throttle response is improved some over stage 1...
Additional info on SFT stg 2 trial: The truck still has factory exhaust with dual tips at bumper, and all emissions equipment is in place. Only mod is the banks steel intake tube instead of the intake silencer between airbox and turbo.
