It would be nice to see the service records on the trucks and find out if all of the recalls have been completed or any of them have an aftermarket tune installed, etc.... I would not be afraid to purchase but would purchase carefully! Knowledge is power!
There appear to be many tuners out there but the 3 mentioned in Mr. Jensens post seem to be the most well established and reputable.... A word of advice "DONT BE CHEAP", many have tried but it is really hard to unscramble an egg when it is in the pan. (think of your ECM as the egg)
It is quite likely that the tone ring has failed which may be covered under a warranty depending on your trucks vin # . W58 or W68 I believe. Check around the forum for those recalls.
Most tunes can be uninstalled at will with a hand held flash device in a matter if minutes for those dealer trips and reinstalled when you get back home.
Bummer that you didn't get a great eco diesel but I think everyone would be thrilled that you were made whole! Hope you find a great rig and let us know if you end up with an eco diesel!
Since Toyota sold you the deleted truck (illegally) and they are working with RAM the only solution will be to restore the truck to legal condition for you.
