I don't know what kind of economy you're getting, but mine gets a little better than advertised on average, might change a bit this winter though. Sounds like you're dealer is cheap for an oil change really, mine was $209 before the oil update, I wouldn't have ever paid those prices. I have only...
I know the trucking industry is already having a hard time with these newer, lighter oil formulations, saw a pic from a kenworth with a newer Cummins engine in it, had been running 10w-30 synthetic blend in it since the first change, cam was completely shot and needed an overhaul at 300,000...
Was in the dealer the other day for the oil update and transmission flashes, blower motor went out the day before I took it in, kind of sucked cause it was 100 degrees that day. 6,600 miles on the odometer when this happened
This is a picture I took off of the back of a Schaeffers 5w-40 9000 Diesel engine oil, says it withstands temps up to 300 degrees higher than normal motor oil, assuming the number they're going off of is 240 that would mean 540 degrees, I don't like to assume anything, but that's good for thought
The vital information you're looking for varies by oil brand and type. There is no set in stone number. Regular petroleum based oils (not synthetic) usually degrade at 240 degrees. Synthetic can be over twice that. I would worry more about why it got that hot, not how hot you can get your oil...
It's part of the oil spec update on the 2016's, the tech sheet isn't very descriptive on what it's supposed to accomplish, but I read somewhere it's supposed to prevent it from down shifting to a higher gear at low speeds
Had the dealer change the oil and do the oil update as they call it, they did the transmission updates too. Also had the blower motor replaced because it went out the day before I was going to take it in, 6600 miles, hope it's not a recurring ordeal. Has anyone else had the updates done to...
Was the powerstroke a 7.3 or 6.0? Those engines really benefit from the Synthetic oils because of the HEUI injection system. I wouldn't see any harm in running amsoil in an ecodiesel. They seem to make good products
I know TBN isn't the only part of oil, but there isn't a ton of information out on the 5w-30 Diesel engine oils, they're going to become more common place with the new PC-11 engine oils coming out at year end 2016.. Does anyone know what brand the dealer is switching to? If they switch to...

Your Euro L VOA
http://championbrands.com/SpecSheet/EO-Blue-Flame%205W-30%20HD%20Motor%20Oil.pdf
It might be a spec sheet direct from the manufacturer, but the TBN is almost twice as high as the Euro Ultra.
I didn't make a big sweeping claim, I admitted it was an opinion, seems like you have a stick up your ass, am I advertising for Champion? I don't think so. If I want to state my opinion that the champion oil is better than than the Euro L, I am free to make that statement, I don't need to back...
BITOG usually has all sorts of VOA's and UOA's if you really care to know go look for yourself, that is my opinion you are correct, I don't personally know the difference in the 5w-30's I do know how their 15w-40's compare and the pennzoil is garbage compared to champion.
Oil is something I've been very passionate about since I've owned a vehicle. I'm by no means an expert, but I really enjoy researching those types of things, I have my own preferences as do most if not all other members on this forum. Even from a financial standpoint loosenin standards to allow...
As long as it maintains that 30w viscosity throughout its life in the motor, a lot of the 40w oils shear viscosity down to about a 30w at the end of its life cycle, I'm not saying all of them do, it's just a broad generalization, so if all other things stay true, a 30w could shear to as low as a...
Talking to our oil rep and they say they have problems with the lower viscosity oils shearing, which also occurs on a 40w but it doesn't lose its protective capability
