Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

So we just get to sit tight and wonder everytime we start out somewhere if it is going to fail? What good is that?

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

Based on the title of this thread, I hope this is a good place for this question. I had a new tone ring installed this Tuesday. My question is, does anyone know if the "new/replacement" tone ring is any different from the old? Has there been any discussion around this? Has RAM said anything...

    ...Well, not the battery

Made it back home without issue. Runs great and the only problem is that the new starter is so quiet, I can hardly tell if the engine started without opening the truck door. Strange, but nice!

    13V vs 14V dash display?

Maybe even so comments: Does your voltage run normally at 13 or 14v?

    13V vs 14V dash display?

Not sure if this is the correct sub-fourm, but here goes: IF you might have been following my battery/starter/tone ring repairs while traveling from SC to TX, while everything seems to be repaired and running well, I still have a "change" that has me wondering. Before I did any work on the...

    ...Well, not the battery

Looks like the truck is running great. Just staying in town today before I trust hitting the road back to Charleston with the TT. I'm going to start a new thread with another question about now having 13V instead of 14v constantly showing on the dash display. Not sure why.

    ...Well, not the battery

I have my truck back!! Yea!!!!! New Starter New EGR valve New Tone Ring While it took longer than I would have hoped (we always want things yesterday don't we). The work was done and all seems well. The service rep was spot on in getting the info to the mechanic; the mechanic listened to the...

    ...Well, not the battery

Here I sit, all broken hearted, my truck has failed and I just ......! Well, Monday came and went but no truck. Late yesterday they did respond indicating that it would certainly be done today by 5pm. Only time will tell.

    ...Well, not the battery

Well, they finally got the part and we received an update today. Truck not ready...neither today nor tomorrow, but anticipate maybe Monday will be ready to go. Good news is that they are replacing the starter, tone ring problem along with replacing the EGR, air bag sensor and all the other...

    ...Well, not the battery

Good news, I hope. Dealership called and said they found the part and are overnighting it. At best should be here tomorrow or Thursday at worst. IF early enough on Thursday I might get it back on Friday! Lets cross our fingers!!🤔

    ...Well, not the battery

Just got word from the dealer. No parts available for at least a week. We are stuck in Texas till something gives! Not good. May have to fly the wife home and sit here with the two dogs for the next week, at least. Then drive home for two days by myself. YUCK!

    ...Well, not the battery

Interesting: Just got a text from the dealership. Bad starter and probably caused by a going bad tone wheel. They said due to the tone wheel potential issue probally has caused long start times and thus the starter going out. Really interesting: The truck, for the past 4.5 years has always...

    Well it finally happened.....

Sounds like that might be it and even though we replaced the battery, it still has the same issue. The interesting thing is that after the 10-15 sec. it cranks very strong every time. No noticeable weakness or slowness or hard starting at all. Just the way it has for 4+ years. Certainly will...

    Well it finally happened.....

That would be great if it really does come back to the battery. Thanks

    ...Well, not the battery

I posted my battery story earlier, and thought things were good, but they are not. Since a lot of you read that and while you may/or may not have found it amusing, the saga continues and I thought I'd better post a new thread so some of you might look again. Here's the latest. Any input is...

    Well it finally happened.....

I know that might be so I did check it and ensured that it was/is tight. Unfortunately, it is so intermittent and thus hard to diagnose. I won't be surprised if the dealer does the diagnostic and charges me for it, and sayes they can't find anything wrong. While that won't surprise me too...

    Well it finally happened.....

Well, it was a nice story with the battery......but it seems it hasn't ended there! Yesterday morning, got into the truck, started it up and all was good, it seemed. Drove for an hour and stopped for lunch. Came out 90 mins later.....SAME NO START PROBLEM! We waited for about 10...

    Well it finally happened.....

Appreciate the note. We all wonder/worry when something happens and the dreaded engine failure always lurks in the back of our minds. Wouldn't want to make light of those failures, but a little light humor once in a while never hurts. Thanks

    Eco diesel relyability

My guess would be that those who have not had a big problem think they are great and those who have had issues hate them. It really is a love/hate relationship. For 93K miles mine has been great. Will it die tomorrow and I still think it is great? Probably not, but that's just me.

    Well it finally happened.....

2015 Laramie with 93K miles on it and no problems. I expected to go forever I guess, but it should have been no surprise to me I guess. I didn't really do much at all to her. She just kept humming along and never failed me as I traveled all over this country. Even Blackstone gave me...
