The SFT tune operates the "engine/exhaust" (actually it is turbo braking) braking automatically when you are in tow-haul and above 2000 rpms. To keep it above 2000 rpms you merely downshift to another gear.
I'm not sure how it activates in the other tunes.
I have the SFT handheld tuner and I believe HD Diesel is using the same device. I recently had the AEM emissions update and prior to going to the dealer I used the handheld to return to the stock tune in my ECU and TCU. After the dealer's emissions flash I reinstalled my SFT tunes - easy...
I agree. SFT was working on extending the regen interval. I haven't anything recently. Don't know if it's a backburner item, a difficult thing or what.
SFT does everything it's advertised to do. I've had both GDE and SFT. GDE had longer regen intervals, a big plus but at some cost (higher temps). SFT gets the same mileage and more power off the line, better towing and runs cooler. SFT customer service is outstanding. If you get the SFT TCU...
I find regens vary a lot depending on temps and type of driving (local or hiway)
I started tracking with my Edge and started with my latest SFT tunes. SFT pretty much follows OEM regen philosophy. Here's my chart:
Yep! It took me about 35 years and that made the next 20 years much happier. Then 11 years ago she got pancreatic cancer and was gone in 5 months. Was never sick a day in her life - what a shocker.
Ooops! I'm not getting in the middle of that one. It took a while but I learned that that wifeys win :ROFLMAO:
It's a no brainer, get a new one (truck, not wifey)
Julian,
Here is another tuner similar to the one that Vern posted except this one is in Nevada, the other is in Canada.
And yes, with either tuner you can easily return the tune to stock and when the dealer visit is over easily put the tune back in.
I am using both SFTs engine (ECU) and tranny...
Vern,
I have an Edge and I monitor EGTs 1 thru 4. Can I pick your brain?
1-Which one is the most critical?
2-Which one/s is measuring at the exhaust manifold/s?
I have researched and got different opinions. Thought maybe you would know.
The Edge Insight CST2 monitor will give you that info plus it will show if the torque converter is locked or not.
In the att pic it is the top right readout, show I'm in Park and torque converter TCL
Jimmy,
I didn't know you have a Cummins tune. Need more info as the truck is now being made, soon to be delivered.
TC,
I went ahead and ordered the 2020. At 85 years I no longer wait for things to happen - I don't buy green bananas. :ROFLMAO: I just have fun thinking I'm still 21.
