YES. Long-term ownership of any vehicle is risky, but cheaper than buying new every 5 years. Fully expect 200k+ miles from mine.
Cross country trips pulling only 4000 lbs sounds like the ideal scenario for the EcoDiesel to be honest. If you said a box camper weighing 7-8k lbs I'd lean to a 3/4...
I tuned out the EGR via GDE from about 40k miles. Drove up to their shop on the way to the Detroit Auto Show. Recently was getting EGR related codes so I removed it and went full delete with a tune from HD Diesel in Canada. My truck is at 100k miles and I fully expect it to run another 100k...
The foam that is on the engine, not the hood or cover. There is a piece on both sides. Takes a bit of work to get the driver's side loose, passenger side comes right off. Remove those two pieces and the bolts that hold the HPFP cover on and it'll come right off as well.
No way you'll get an accurate number to that longevity question.
You're right, the unmolested used diesel has a higher resale value for sure. I justified the delete for myself as preventative maintenance for the second 100k miles, if not more. But if you plan to only have the truck a short...
I use the Edge CS2, it's the base model. Not exactly cheap tho. I know some people run an app (TorquePro?) with an OBD bluetooth device and like that approach as well.
Delete it, remove the engine foam, remove the HPFP cover, get a cheap monitoring system, and send out used oil to Blackstone for analysis. That would be on my short list if I were a used buyer.
I'm saying the 70-200 mile range between regeneration is for the current GDE tune available in the US. That's about the same as factory programming. I frequently ran 700 miles between cycles on the old GDE tune and loved it. I thought maybe you were saying SFT was less than today's legal tune...
The high regen cycle is a killer in my opinion. Every 200 miles?!? That's absurd. I wouldn't go with a current GDE tune or SFT. The original GDE tune stretched out the intervals and was great. HD Diesel does this as well.
Be aware that it's not your Cummins or 7.3L. It's a light V6 designed for the European Cadillac. Delete it if possible, at the very least tune out and delete the EGR.
It is the Approved Emission Modification programming that FCA uses since they settled with the EPA. It opens the EGR valve more often then the previous programming in an effort to cut tailpipe emissions.
FWIW, since I posted that I've eaten my words and took my truck in to get the flash for...
That is great news. I thought it would be higher than that to update. Although it won't be your same PRE EPA tune, I've read good things about their current programming.
No I don't think that'll work. You may give GDE a call and see if they would discount a new tune seeing how you are an existing customer. Before the EPA neutered them, it was only $50 to reflash the ECM if it was ever written over. Not the case anymore, but GDE may work with you, not sure.

You could lock up the OBD port or talk to your service manager and ask not to flash. But there are no assurances even with good communication. If I were in your shoes I would program a backup ECM to use for dealer visits if you don't want to lose your GDE tune.
I'm assuming you have an older...
